Wagner to Run for Legislature in District 25

LINCOLN, Neb. - Travis Wagner, a recently retired National Guardsman and decorated Vietnam veteran, announced today that he will be a candidate for the Nebraska Legislature from District 25.

"I served my country for forty years in the Armed Forces, and now I hope to continue that commitment by serving in the Nebraska Legislature," said Wagner, 61. "I'll win this race by going door-to-door across the district, listening and respecting voters, and sharing my ideas for reducing property taxes, strengthening education, building our communities, and getting the state's spending priorities correct."

Wagner, a native of rural Archer, Nebraska, was on active duty in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. While enlisted, he received several awards, including the Distinguished Flying Cross for Gallantry and twenty-six Air Medals while flying on Chinook helicopters. He joined the Army National Guard upon returning to Nebraska and moving to Lincoln after his tour of duty continuing to serve his country. During his time in the Guard, he received awards for his service during the 1997 Lincoln-area snow storms, the 2001 Chadron wildfires, and several other natural disasters.

He retired at the rank of 1st Sergeant. To achieve 1SG, Wagner had to show skill and proficiency in communication, team building, leadership, mentoring, and working with diverse cultures and age groups. Prioritizing time and resources was always required to complete tasks and the mission. He looks forward to utilizing these learned skills for LD 25.

"I'm running for Legislature because Nebraska state government needs to get its priorities right," Wagner said. "With fiscally responsible spending priorities, we can strengthen schools, build stronger communities, and reduce the tax burden on middle class families."

Legislative District 25 includes portions of Lincoln, Waverly, and northeast Lancaster County. It is currently represented by Ron Raikes, who is unable to run for re-election due to term limits.
